Finally went to the dyno to get my car tuned last night. After a few hiccups, new irridium spark plugs (because no one in the area had regular NGKs), new plug wires we got it running pretty well. One issue we couldnt resolve was the boost wouldn't hold until redline. It would peak at 25-26psi and taper down to 16psi. We tried shimming out the internal gate to get it to hold better, but the bracket just ended up bending due to the exhaust backpressure. At any rate, I went in with about 90ft-lbs and 130awhp and came out with 315ft-lbs and 300awhp. I believe if we could have kept the boost up and I didn't have the ignition problems we could have approached 400awhp and a couple more ft-lbs. So now I have a decision to make, do I spend $500 on an external wastegate and recirc O2 housing or do I give up on this turbo/manifold setup and just go balls to the wall to max out the engine with something like a 62mm turbo? I am eventually going to go for 600hp, so a $250 recirc housing would be a waste, but a $900 new turbo, $250 wastegate, $300 manifold etc just isnt in the cards right now.

WOW! That's awesome mn... from 130 to 300 is a pretty amazing feat.. Goes to show the power of proper tuning I can't wait to go for a ride, hear you open up that exhaust dump with 300 ponies under load! I say go for the better of the two options.. buy the 62mm turbo! Is that part of your overall scheme? 'Cause if you spend now it's the same as spending later haha

Well pickup that 260z killer! Or just come out for the hell of it! Lol, I wish! What would go to my overall scheme is 2-350hp turbos, not 1-600hp turbo. The only thing I could reuse from the 62mm turbo would be the wastegate itself. I do need to reach the goal peak hp first before I start focusing on getting the spool up quicker.

I like the way you think... I think I just might. It was a 260, right?

Yessir. Super ultra rare, only made for 2 years! Lol, actually it is more like the bastard stepchild of the super sexy 240Z and the ehhh (still sexy, but not as much IMO) 280Z.

Hey nice numbers man! Hmmm... you next step is a dellima eh? I personally would gear toward fixin the boost issues. I cant wait to dyno my Talon... Sounds like the internal waste gate needs to go. You have a dyno graph?
If you talk the talk, you better crankwalk the walk.

Nah, I am hoping he emails the graphs to me. Wasn't really much to look at honestly! Yeah, I agree but I mean... 600hp! Lol. I checked my injector duty cycles yesterday and they are about 58-59% so I should be able to just reach that if I really start dumping meth into the engine.

Damn! I usually run my IDC's around 80%... But a 62mm on meth.... oh yeah! PLus you run it open dump... hehe. What was your wastegate duty cycles like?

Lol, yeah I wouldn't want to go much over that honestly. Who knows, if the boost stays at 26psi until 8k then I may run out of injector. ...wastegate duty cycle? What is this?

Well a simple explaination is the % of air being sent to the turbine. Like say WGDC is at 80%, the solenoid is requiring 80% of all air to hit the turbine to make target boost. The other 20% is bled off through the wastegate. Of course im pretty sure this is out the window in you have a boost controller and what not... Im just a little use to setting boost via ECU flashing haha! So WGDC may not even matter to you huh? We wouldnt want you to run out of injector! Well I guess I should say on the WRX the IDC's were pretty high....
